Getting a U.S. Visa in Indonesia is Now Only Possible with KITAS or KITAP

As of September 6, 2025, the U.S. Department of State has changed the rules for applying for nonimmigrant visas.
From now on, applications can only be submitted in the applicant’s country of citizenship or country of permanent residence.
This new rule applies worldwide.

What if U.S. visa interviews are not conducted in your country?

Citizens of such countries must apply at consulates designated by the U.S. Department of State.
For example, Russian citizens can now apply only in Astana or Warsaw.

What happens to already scheduled interviews?

According to the official source:
“Existing nonimmigrant visa appointments will generally not be cancelled.”
However, the final decision rests with the specific consulate.

❗ Paid visa fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

What if you are in Indonesia?

• With a KITAS or KITAP, you can apply for a U.S. visa directly in Indonesia.
