The Visa Requirement Parents Often Miss: Does Your Child Need a Visa for Indonesia?
One of our clients recently contacted us to extend his wife’s visa, which had expired 10 days earlier. After submitting her passport and the extension request, we inquired about her boarding pass. At this point, the client asked, “Do I need to provide the boarding pass just for my wife, or for my child as well?”
This was the first time we became aware that the client’s child was also in Indonesia, so we inquired about the child’s visa status and whether it needed an extension as well. The client was convinced that children under 7 didn’t require a visa. However, our experts immediately recognized that this could lead to a serious immigration issue when the client’s family attempts to depart Indonesia.
We asked a few more questions and quickly discovered that the child had entered Indonesia on the same type of visa as the mother, and that the child's visa had also expired 10 days ago. Thanks to our attention to detail and swift action, we were able to urgently submit all the necessary documents for both the mother's and the child's visa extensions, which were successfully processed.
As a result, the family was able to stay in Indonesia and later leave the country without any issues. Needless to say, our client was very pleased with our professionalism and meticulous approach.
Important Information for Parents: A common misconception is that children do not need visas. However, visa requirements for children are exactly the same as for adults and based on nationality, not age. This rule applies universally, meaning that even infants must have a visa to enter Indonesia.
