Love scam and immigration inspection: when feelings undermine business

One of the common scenarios faced by foreigners in Bali is losing focus on their business due to personal relationships. This is exactly what happened to our client.
What happened:
A foreigner moved to Bali, registered a PT PMA, and started a business.
A few months later, he began a romantic relationship with a local woman who quickly earned his trust. She was playing a calculated game — asking for money, gifts, and doing her best to fully occupy his time.
Immersed in his personal life, he stopped paying attention to the company’s operations. Reports weren’t submitted, employees weren’t officially registered, and BPJS was neither filed nor paid.
Consequences:
Such a “sleeping” business doesn’t go unnoticed. The foreigner received a warning from the Ministry of Labor. He faced the threat of fines, deportation, and a ban on re-entry because the company could be considered a shell entity due to these violations.
When the situation spiraled out of control, he reached out to us for help.
We stepped in, restored and filed all the reports, audited the business activities, officially registered the employees, registered and paid BPJS, and prepared the company for a possible inspection.
We managed to avoid fines and resolve all legal gaps. The situation was stabilized, but it could have ended very differently.
Conclusion:
Bali easily lulls you into a false sense of security — especially when it feels like a new love story is unfolding.
But sometimes, behind a pretty facade lies a simple calculation. While you’re immersed in personal matters, your business loses control, and risks grow.
Before diving into emotions, make sure your business is under solid control.
Entrust your reporting to professionals and live stress-free, without unpleasant surprises from the tax office or immigration.
